Site Purpose[edit]
The purpose of this site is to provide resources and recommendations for those who desire to protect civil liberties. While the focus is on the United States, much of the information will be relevant to people across the world. The authors have done their upmost to ensure advice is sound and any links are clean. However, the reader should make their own independent evaluations and follow good practice for assessing link safety. The reader should also check the legality of the suggestions in this website with their local jurisdiction.
Where to Start[edit]
If you feel you will be at risk in your location for accessing resources dedicated to civil liberties, Tor (Onion Site) is a great way to browse the internet privately. However, your ISP will likely be aware you are using TOR, so consider if your government would punish those who use Tor. See the Link Safety section of Computer and Electronic Device Safety to help verify the safety and authenticity of links you are uncertain of. Ideally, each party should make your own security plan, to assess your own goals and risks. The Privacy Guides (Onion Site) website is an excellent resource for recommendations on privacy tools and information. The ACLU has a set of good simple introductions to your civil rights in the US called Know Your Rights.
